Recovery
You can likely go home about 2 weeks after your transplant surgery. A living donor can typically go home about 1 week after surgery. Your first return appointment after a liver transplant will generally be scheduled about 1 to 2 weeks after discharge. After that, follow-up is 3, 6, 9 and 12 months from the date of the transplant, and then once a year for the rest of your life.
Success Rate
According to a study, people who have a liver transplant have an 89% percent chance of living after one year. The five-year survival rate is 75 percent.
